Network Technician Job at Amazon in Dublin

Amazon.com is looking to hire highly motivated, best-in-class Network Technicians to join our growing team within infrastructure operations. The candidate will work with minimum supervision in a dynamic environment within Amazon Data Centers to drive the stability and sustainability of our next-generation networks and to develop innovative ways to automate and scale our network as we expand.

The position responsibilities will include scaling support of several data center locations and be responsible for day to day assistance with capacity management. The Network Technician will work closely with both internal customers and external vendors to facilitate smooth project execution as directed by Technical Project Managers

Our ideal candidate is highly autonomous, very detail oriented, possesses strong written and verbal communication skills and has significant experience of supporting large scale, enterprise class networks. Excellent network implementation and troubleshooting skills combined with a proven documentation methodology is also required. Strong written and verbal communication skills and an ability to interact efficiently with peers and customers are required. The desire and ability to work in a fast paced, collaborative environment is essential. In addition to providing top-tier management and support of Amazon’s vast network infrastructure, Network Technicians are expected to build or enhance tools, develop best practices, refine operational procedure and constantly think proactively and innovatively.

Responsibilities:

* Deliver simple, sustainable and repeatable solutions and processes.

* Work closely with our Network Engineering & Network Technical Project Manager teams to ensure fast, smooth rollout of new designs and products.

* TCP/IP networking knowledge

* Broad understanding of infrastructure technologies

* Knowledge of network cabling and standard optic types

* Familiarity with common networking terms.

* Manage work and priorities through ticketing system and workflow

* Collaborate with various stake holders to remove project obstacles

* Up to 20% travel may be required to various Dublin sites

* Troubleshoot networking, routing and interconnectivity issues, including troubleshooting of network device configuration and low level application interaction

* Complete customer requests via Remedy trouble ticketing system

* Participate in the migration, basic configuration and rollout of new or upgraded hardware

Primary Qualifications

A relevant degree in a related technical discipline or at least three years’ relevant experience in a large-scale network operations environment is preferred

Experience on major Networking hardware platforms

* Familiarity with cabling infrastructure to include optical and cooper infrastructure.

* Ability to terminate and test copper and fiber cable

* Familiarity with network test equipment such as OTDR and LAN Analyzers

* Must be comfortable working in a Linux/Unix environment.

* Excellent analytical skills

Preferred Qualifications

* Familiarity with major Internet routing protocols, BGP, OSPF.

* Ethernet and IP networking knowledge and experience in the application of IP protocols.

* Substantial background in large scale datacenter network implementations and support.

* Experience working in virtualized enterprise networking environments

* Knowledge or awareness of IT best practice frameworks (ITIL, COBIT) and Operational Excellence concepts or methodologies is a plus

Other Qualifications & Responsibilities

* Physical requirements – The ability to sit in front of computer for entire scheduled 12-hour shift with appropriate breaks while maintaining a high level of alertness and attention to detail.

* Ability to move and lift computer equipment.

* Experience dealing with customers during problem resolution and operating efficiently under pressure.

* Effective prioritization and time management.

* Must be able to work in a “follow the sun” shift (6am-6pm) across and including weekends and holidays.

Basic Qualifications:

2+ years industry experience

IP networking fundamentals and experience in the application of IP protocols

Experience with major internet routing protocols

Experience with major router platforms; specifically with Cisco 37xx, 49xx, 65xx, 73xx, 76xx platforms including all compatible supervisory and line cards for these platforms

Experience with IOS/JUNOS

Network analysis fundamentals and troubleshooting skills.

Configuring and troubleshooting traffic engineering using BGP and large scale network operations and maintenance

Candidates should also have past experience with, in many of the following protocols & technologies: IPv4 & IPv6, TCP (internals & flow control), BGP, OSPF, HSRP/GLBP, IPSEC & VPNs, netflow, DNS, HTTP

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with mission critical systems is highly desired

• Experience designing network and datacenter installations utilizing L2 and L3 protocols is highly desired

• Unix skills and the ability to script in Perl, shell, C or C++ is desirable
